Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue will focus on the constraints and opportunities around disaster-related legislation and regulatory requirements for sustainable reconstruction programmes after disasters. Literature suggests that legislation and regulatory requirements can significantly influence the rate of recovery from natural disasters. The expectation is that these facilitate reconstruction and are enabling of recovery, while also future-proofing against disaster events. However, very often, legislation and regulatory requirements are not appropriate and are inimical to post-disaster reconstruction objectives for increased resilience and reduction in vulnerabilities. This Special Issue provides a platform for an increased understanding of the considerations that should be given to the peculiarities of post-disaster reconstruction programmes within legislation. It is intended to feature a collection of papers on lessons learnt from the review and/or revision of disaster-related legislation in different jurisdictions so that they serve as best practices for future more sustainable reconstruction programmes in the aftermath of natural disasters.
