Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite original research or review articles to a Special Issue of the journal Sustainability on the topic “Integration and Optimization of Smart Mobility for Sustainable Rural Electrification”. Energy is crucial to nearly every major challenge and opportunity faced by the world today. Whether it be jobs, security, climate change, food production, or increasing incomes, access to sustainable energy for all is essential for strengthening economies, eradicating poverty and illiteracy, protecting ecosystems, and achieving equity. In addition, rural electrification helps to achieve more rapid social and economic objectives. A quick glance at the electrification world map shows that rural areas are in great need of affordable and reliable electricity to achieve development. The lack of modern electricity impacts peoples’ lives and hampers the provision of basic services, primarily in poor healthcare, stifled economic growth, toxic fumes, limited or no education, and lack of safety. These endemic power shortages affect all aspects of life.

The goal of this Special Issue is to address access to modern energy for underserved communities and people living in poverty, who are disproportionately affected by the negative impacts of climate change. It aims to provide a set of integrated solutions for sustainable development, for the valorization and fruition of heritage, and for a better quality of life.

Topics of interest of this Special Issue include, but are not limited to:

  • Smart mobility;
  • Smart grid and electric vehicles;
  • Renewable energy;
  • Photovoltaic systems;
  • Energy storage systems;
  • Intelligent vehicles and self-driving cars.
