Blue Carbon and Nutrient Dynamics in Coastal Wetlands

Dear Colleagues,

Maintaining global biodiversity is essential for guaranteeing human well-being and planet sustainability. Coastal ecosystems can play a critical role to ensure resilience along coasts, avoiding erosion, protecting from sea level rise, and ensuring a sustainable habitat for coastal species. Furthermore,  coastal wetlands can help to mitigate climate changes by sequestering and storing carbon. Despite their known benefits, these blue carbon ecosystems are significantly threatened, and several hectares have been destroyed during the last decades.

Including coastal blue carbon policies and management plans into national and international policies can be a solution to help to mitigate climate change.

This Special Issue aims to gather insightful contributions on the aforementioned aspects, embrace holistic and multidisciplinary approaches, as well as include innovative studies on the measurement of organic carbon stocks in soils and ground biomass, measurement planning, greenhouse gas emissions monitoring, remote sensing options for coastal dynamics, management of large datasets and data sharing, coastal erosion, and coastal hydraulics.

We encourage researchers and practitioners, from both industry and academia, to submit their work and views, so that a broad contribution can be delivered to the community on a very urgent topic.
