Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

It seems the authors have addressed most of the issues in the new submission. Publication is possible after solving the following problems.

(1) The method for the preparation of AC electrode should also be provided in the manuscript.

(2) The energy density and powder density of the asymmetric cell should be compared with literature values of other asymmetric systems, such as MnO2/carbon system.

(3) The interpretation of HRTEM images is poor. The lattice spacing should be correlated to the crystal plane.

(4) Language should be improved.

Author Response

Dear Reviewer,

Thanks for your advice. According to the reviewer’s comments, the paper has been revised. All the changes in the MS are in red, and we also make a list of changes below:

Q1.The method for the preparation of AC electrode should also be provided in the manuscript.

A1We have provided the method for the preparation of AC electrode. And all the changes are in red in the manuscript.

Q2. The energy density and powder density of the asymmetric cell should be compared with literature values of other asymmetric systems, such as MnO2/carbon system.

A2The reviewer’s suggestion is constructive. We have compared the energy density and powder density of the asymmetric cell with literature values of other asymmetric systems. And all the changes are in red in the manuscript.

Q3. The interpretation of HRTEM images is poor. The lattice spacing should be correlated to the crystal plane.

A3We have provided more detailed analysis about TEM, and the crystal plane associated with the lattice spacing has been provided in the manuscript. All the changes are in red in the text.

Q4. Language should be improved.

A4We have tried our best to check the manuscript for the English of the manuscript. All the changes are in red in the text.

Reviewer 2 Report

This manuscript entitled “Research on high-performance electrochemical energy storage of NiO@ZnO (NZO) hybrid based on growth time” reports the preparation of NZO hybrid materials for highly enhanced electrochemical properties. The battery-type electrodes exhibit the high capacitances with good cycle performances. The results as well as the conclusions shown in the manuscript are technically sound. The reviewer would support the consideration of accepting this manuscript with the following questions/revisions being addressed.

1. In the manuscript, the NZO electrodes are freestanding on the current collector. Author should offer the mass loading of active materials and the detailed procedure of mass measurements.

2. In the XPS spectra, the FWHM of fitted spectra are variable even in the one element. Author can offer the revised fitted curves with a same value of FWHM.

3. To get the detailed information for asymmetric devices, the electrochemical properties of activated carbon electrodes using a 3-electrode system can be offered with CV and rate capabilities under various scan rates.
