Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Comments to the Authors of manuscript number: pathogens-1535701 entitled “Intestinal and mucosal microbiomic response to oral challenge of enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli in weaned pigs”.

The authors have presented a study involved neonatal male piglets challenged by enterotoxigenic E. coli. Authors have performed histomorphometrical analysis of ileum as well as proteomic and transcription analyses. However, if piglets have presented diarrhea, I do not know how Authors have found the whole villi for measurements.

  1. L 13 – what is mucosal microbiome?
  2. L 49, 51 – what is mucosal microbiome. The first part of introduction relates to gut microbiome. Authors do not explain and present the division of gut microbiome. It should be corrected.

Reviewer 2 Report

The aim of the research was to investigate change of mucosaln microbiome and protein expression in the ileum induced by E. coli K88 (ETEC) using pigs as a model.  The number samples used in the experiment is sufficient. The applied research methods are correct. The discussion is well conducted and comprehensive. Well-chosen references. References must be made in accordance with the instructions for authors. Before publishing in Pathogens, the article requires additions and corrections. The proposed changes are listed below:
