Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The authors have investigated the factors associated with hypertension control in an older population. The present paper is an update of a previous paper https://0-doi-org.brum.beds.ac.uk/10.1371%2Fjournal.pone.0178334 published by Choi et al. in 2017 that underlined the importance of gender in obtaining blood paper control.

However, the present paper does not add enough novelty. According to the latest cardiovascular guidelines, hypertension treatment should be upgraded if blood pressure control is not achieved. What was the treatment for blood pressure in the study group in the present research? Were the guidelines followed? Also, blood pressure is not a static value. How was the blood pressure control evaluated?

Also, the quality of the presentation must be improved by a native English speaker to enhance the clarity and scientific soundness.

Dear author,

It is a well written manuscript. I have some suggestions.

The title should be changed, because your aim and title is not parallel.

When you read your title, the reader feels the gender comparisons. But you didn't compare. If you provide a comparison with the hypertension-controlled group, that might be fine.

You should add an explanation about the sample size calculation for each group.

You should add information about comorbidities, number of hypertensive medicines, etc.

Obesity is a disease, it is not only health status parameters.

How to evaluate perceived stress? Perceived Stress Scale??

How to evaluate activities of daily living? Katz ADL scale??

How to standardize this type variables?

How did you evaluate the cognitive functions of elderly people? Mini mental state test?? If you didn't, there is a data reliability problem.

You should use guideline for reporting. https://www.equator-network.org/

Best wishes

Although the research presented in the paper I quite simple, findings are interesting. Although it might be a little bit out of scope of the paper it would be interesting for reader if authors to describe current preventive measures applied in Korea and more concrete recommendations for its adjustment.
