Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This work by Møller and co-workers focuses on the crystal structures of a cobalt compound which has two chiral centers. The authors found that when nitric oxide (NO) is added to the vicinity of the crystals, NO molecules are attached to the cobalt centers because the crystals have available voids allowing the NO molecules to enter. Interesting is that the chemisorption is accompanied by the color change from red to black. In general, this work is interesting and the manuscript is already in good shape, however, a few other problems might need to be taken care of.

1) The abstract is definitely too long and includes too many details. Information like angle value can be removed. Please make it concise.

2) It would be nice to move Figure 4 much earlier in the manuscript or put a reaction scheme in the very beginning of the manuscript.

3) The "materials" and "synthesis" subsections seem to have some overlap. Maybe they can be merged into one subsection.

4) The "computational details" subsection should be removed because no computational results were presented in this work.

5) Given the interesting color change from red to black, it would be interesting to add some UV-Vis calculation on the cobalt compounds and give some explanation on this color change.

Reviewer 3 Report

In this manuscript, the authors reported the nitrosylation of the cobalt complexes with NO using a solid-gas reaction.  The reversible binding is an interesting finding.  The experimental data and analysis support the results in the manuscript. I recommend publication after minor revision.

  1. The solid-gas method for the nitrosylation of metal complexes was reported previously.
