Geomatics is an information technology discipline which integrates the tasks of gathering, storing, processing, modeling, analyzing, and delivering spatially referenced or location information. It encompasses the disciplines of surveying, hydrography, mapping, remote sensing (often called Earth observation) and geographic information processing, often called geographic information science (or GIS). As a professionally orientated discipline, Geomatics include services that meet the needs of society and which contribute to social, quality of life and the management of natural heritage and resources. Geomatics professionals may be involved in designing, conducting and managing activities relating to surveying, geography, satellite positioning, Earth observation systems, information systems, land development and planning, law and commerce. Geomatics professionals use the latest satellite, laser, acoustic, and information technology and are continually branching into new challenging areas of applications.
Geomatics (ISSN 2673-7418) is an international and interdisciplinary peer-reviewed open access journal to promote multi-disciplinary research over broad ranges geomatics innovative research and applications. The journal will be published quarterly online by MDPI. The rigorous and efficient editorial process seeks to make Geomatics an international publication to benefit the scientific community, government organizations, industries and the general public. The Editorial Board invites original contributions in the form of research papers, communications, letters, short notes, and reviews on all aspects of Geomatics including surveying and mapping, positioning and navigation, geodesy, photogrammetry, cartography and cadastral, hydrography, remote sensing, spatial data analysis, spatial information science, crowdsourcing/volunteered geographic information and geographic information systems.
