Dear Colleagues,
Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBDs), including Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, are recognized as chronic, progressive, non-curable diseases that are immune-mediated in adults and children alike. IBDs can cause significant morbidity and may lead to cancer, fistulas, infections, and strictures. The symptoms of IBDs are variable, and the delayed diagnosis of IBDs is common, especially in Crohn's disease, which is associated with adverse outcomes. Early diagnosis and the prompt establishment of optimal, personalized treatments are essential conditions for maximizing the patient's health status.
The main topics of this Special Issue of Diagnostics cover the following areas:
- Accurate diagnosis in IBDs, accuracy of blood biomarkers for the prediction of IBD, new biomarkers for IBDs, genetic changes associated with the presence of IBDs, the role of miRNA in predicting IBDs, and genetic phenotypes in IBDs;
- The role of modern endoscopic techniques in the diagnosis of IBDs and their complications, and modern advances such as endoscopic molecular imaging, etc.;
- Comorbidities associated with IBDs on the patient’s health (increased risk of NAFLD, cardiovascular diseases, cancer risk, etc.).
Original research articles and reviews are equally welcome.
