Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Advances of graphics hardware performance and game engine functionality enable the real-time capability of image and video processing. The application of image and vision technologies to computer games has introduced new viable interfaces for gameplay. The scope of the research fields ‘visual information processing in computer game’ is quite broad, including vision-based computer games, augmented reality games, gesture interface in computer games, computer games using the physical environment, and controlling computer games through physical camera. Recent significant progress of positional tracking technology and increased availability various sensing devices accelerates developments of news genres in interactive entertainment applications. Augmented reality games attempt to integrate the players' real environment into the virtual game environment. Depth-sensing cameras are already a common 3D interaction interface in gaming. They capture the real world around the user in 3D and provide depth maps in real time. Nowadays, spherical cameras are also widely available and spherical panoramic videos are becoming popular. A single camera gives full field-of-view images which makes interactive entertainment systems provide a more immersive experience when performing spatial tasks. Due to the appearance of immersive interfaces, such as gesture-based controllers and new visual sensing interfaces (including spherical cameras or 3D depth cameras, new technologies and applications in games, and interactive entertainment, which are emerging for augmented reality gaming and entertainment applications). This Special Issue focuses on innovative research ideas, state-of-the-art algorithms, and applications in scientific and engineering aspects of entertainment and game computing. The topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Vision-based interface for gaming and entertainment systems;

* Immersive game technology;

* Augmented reality games;

* Spherical video/image analysis;

* Structure reconstruction from spherical video/image;

* Mixed and augmented reality systems for entertainment and game;

* Entertainment and game applications with spherical/omnidirectional camera;

* Affective computing in games;

* Game engines for image and video processing.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Information is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
