Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This call for papers aims to address the evolving landscape of electrical machine design by exploring the potential of additive manufacturing (AM) techniques. AM represents a paradigm shift in manufacturing, offering unparalleled design freedom, material versatility, and the ability to create complex geometries. As the demand for clean energy technologies continues to grow across various sectors, such as wind power, electric vehicles, and electric powertrains, there is a pressing need to develop innovative solutions that meet the requirements of high power density, high efficiency, and lightweight electrical machines.

This Special Issue invites researchers and practitioners to contribute their latest theoretical and technological advancements in the field of the advanced design of electrical machines, drives, and electric vehicles using the additive manufacturing approach. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Novel design methodologies leveraging additive manufacturing for electrical machines and drives.
  • Optimization techniques for AM-based electrical machine designs, considering performance metrics such as power density, efficiency, and thermal management.
  • Material selection and characterization for the additive manufacturing of electrical machine components, including considerations for lightweighting and thermal conductivity.
  • Integration of advanced control strategies with AM-based electrical machine designs to enhance performance and efficiency.
  • Case studies and practical applications demonstrating the feasibility and advantages of additive manufacturing in electric vehicle propulsion systems.
  • Challenges and opportunities in scaling up additive manufacturing for the mass production of electrical machines and components.
  • Advances in AM technologies and processes relevant to the design and fabrication of electrical machines, including 3D printing, laser sintering, and hybrid manufacturing approaches.
  • Sustainable manufacturing practices and environmental considerations associated with additive manufacturing in the electrical machine industry.

Authors are encouraged to submit original research papers, review articles, and perspectives that offer valuable insights into the future trends and challenges in utilizing additive manufacturing for the design and production of advanced electrical machines and electric vehicle systems.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Machines is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
