Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to present this Special Issue of Membranes dedicated to the exploration of cutting-edge developments in the field of polymer membrane formation. Membrane technology plays a pivotal role in various industrial processes, including water purification, gas separation, drug delivery, and beyond. Polymer membranes have emerged as versatile materials with a wide range of applications due to their tunable properties, cost-effectiveness, and sustainability. This Special Issue, entitled "Advances in Polymer Membrane Formation", showcases the latest breakthroughs and innovations in this critical area of materials and separation science.

This Special Issue offers a comprehensive overview of the recent progress made in the design, fabrication, and characterization of polymer membranes, highlighting the following key themes:

  1. Novel Polymer Materials: Explore the synthesis and characterization of advanced polymer materials tailored for membrane formation, including functionalized polymers, nanocomposites, and responsive polymers.
  2. Membrane Fabrication Techniques: The state-of-the-art methods for membrane fabrication, such as electrospinning, phase inversion, interfacial polymerization, self-assembly, among others.
  3. Membrane Morphology and Structure: Gain insights into the impact of membrane morphology and structure on performance, selectivity, and permeability. Discover innovative strategies for controlling membrane structure at the nanoscale.
  4. Applications and Performance: Delve into the diverse applications of polymer membranes, from water desalination and wastewater treatment to gas separation, energy conversion, and biomedical applications. Evaluate the performance improvements achieved through novel membrane designs.
  5. Characterization and Testing: Explore advanced characterization techniques and testing methodologies used to assess the properties and performance of polymer membranes.

In this Special Issue, both original research articles and reviews are welcome.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the authors who have already contributed their exceptional work to this Special Issue. We hope that the knowledge disseminated through these articles will inspire further innovation and collaboration in the realm of polymer membrane research.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Membranes is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
