Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue is a continuation of our previous Special Issue titled ‘Plant-Associated Pseudomonads’, which was published in 2022. 

The Pseudomonas genus is one of the widest and most diverse bacterial genera, with more than 200 species named to date. Pseudomonads are versatile Proteobacteria that can dwell in many environments with different lifestyles. A large number of important Pseudomonas species have been isolated from plant environments, including the rhizosphere, phylosphere, and endophytic compartments. In these environments, pseudomonads can have either a pathogenic or a saprophytic lifestyle. Many strains and species have played a role in promoting plant growth, and are therefore considered plant-growth-promoting bacteria (PGPB). Plant growth promotion induced by pseudomonads has been attributed to various mechanisms, such as the improvement of plant nutrition (biofertilization), antagonism towards phytopathogens (biocontrol), or the modification of plant hormone balances. In each case, Pseudomonas spp. plays an important role in altering the relationship between plants and the environment.

This Special Issue will cover all aspects of the interactions of pseudomonads with their host plants, as well as the biology of plant-interacting pseudomonads. It will also cover the interactions between plant-associated pseudomonads and other micro-organisms present in the plant microbiome.
