Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Nanomaterials are of great interest due to their peculiar physical and chemical properties, which make them excellent candidates for biotechnology and medical applications. Among other things, recent research has shown the possibility to design and produce nanostructured materials that can be implanted to replace or repair missing or damaged tissues in the human body, positively interacting with the host organs.

Nanostructured biocompatible materials of different chemical natures, both inorganic (such as titanium and its alloys) or organic (as for example PCL, elastin, chitosan) can be bio-activated by modifying their surface through functionalization with appropriate biomolecules, also exploiting the high surface-to-volume ratio typical of nanostructures. Several biomolecules can be used for the bioactivation of the material, such as peptide sequences and oligosaccharides, with the goal being to elicit a specific biological response from the hosting body, since the design of a biomedical device destined to a biological environment must depend on the knowledge of the phenomena that takes place in the same biological site after the implant.

The goal of this Special Issue is to collect top-quality contributions in the field of nanostructured materials for tissue engineering applications. High-level studies focusing on the design, preparation, and structural and morphological characterization of biocompatible nanomaterials, either inorganic, organic, or organometallic, envisaged for applications in the field of tissue engineering are welcome.

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Nanomaterials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
