Fluorescing Dyes and Fluorescing Probes

Dear Colleague,

Fluorescing molecules are increasingly considered as labelling dyes and probes to be used in fields ranging from biology to biomedicine and industrial applications, the latter including also the synthesis of fluorescing colorants and their use for dyeing food, cosmetics, and drugs or to control their production chain. Chemical specificity for the elements and compounds of interest, high quantum yield, narrow excitation and emission spectral bands in the spectral range from the near-UV to the near-IR, and photostability are the most important properties making fluorescing dyes and probes powerful, sensitive, and selective markers and labelling tools. This Special Issue welcomes proposals on advanced uses of existing natural or synthetic fluorescing molecules, as well as on the synthesis, development, and validation of new fluorescing dyes and probes, luminescent nanoparticles included. Examples of applications can range from the use of fluorescing molecules combined with semiconductors in light emitting diodes and the production of new security inks or the improvement of solar power cell efficiency, to environment surveillance, advances in the knowledge and monitoring of bio-metabolic activities, photo-diagnosis, and phototherapy, and sensitive ex vivo and in vivo detection of biomarkers of disease.
