Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

I liked this paper. The ability of the authors in preparing micropillars of the desired orientation in order to test glide resistance by selecting the involved slip systems is truly remarkable.

I must notice that the work is clearly a follow up of Ref. 52. Still, it contains significant new material because authors here added the analysis of the effect of grain boundaries by considering double-crystal alloys and not, simply, a single crystal as in the quoted reference.

The present research is likely to stimulate new theory and modeling, as it facilitates the definition of proper constitutive laws for the Iron, Chromium, Aluminum alloy.

While, given the restricted reviewing time, I haven't carefully checked fine details of the paper, I could not detect any major problem and I therefore recommend publication in the present form.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors present an excellent experimental study of active slip systems in FeCrAl micropillars. The research is very well motivated and there is no doubt about importance of the FeCrAl alloys for engineering and industrial application. The experiments are very well designed (as far as orientation of micropillars and bi-crystals is concerned), excellently performed and their outcome analyzed and post-processed. I strongly believe that the paper should be published nearly “as is” with a few minor imperfections that should be corrected. First, there is typo at line 51 (“pervious”). Second, a sentence opening, that reads “Table 1”, at line 290 seems as misplaced. Third, there are two full stops, one after another, at line 301.  Lastly, the formulation “is in consistent” at line 338 sounds weird to me. When these minor imperfections are corrected, I suggest to accept and publish this excellent manuscript.

We have corrected these in the revised manuscript.
