This is an excellent review discussing theories for melanoma development starting with the well established Whiteman´s divergent pathway model and discussing the role of the number of nevi as well as a familiar predisposition for melanomas. English grammar and style are correct. There is only one small correction to be made: page 1 lines 32 and 33. The authors cite that "melanoma is the most aggressive and lethal form of skin cancer". Perhaps one should say "one of the most aggressive...." In general, Merkelcell carcinoma is much more aggressive than most melanomas.

Response: We thank the Reviewer for this clarification. In the revised manuscript we have specify that melanoma is one of the most aggressive and lethal form of skin cancer (Lines 32-33).
