Manuscript Title: Spatial Differentiation and Influencing Factors of Tertiary Industry in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration

Manuscript ID: land-2836572

General Comments:

The manuscript's intent is to conduct spatial differentiation and influencing factors of tertiary industry in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration. The Dagum_Gini coefficient, kernel density estimation and local spatial autocorrelation are used to explore the spatial differentiation of various tertiary industries, and the influencing factors are analyzed by using geographical detectors. I think this is a very valuable study, and the analytical method is regulated. The results have some important implications for the optimization of industrial structure and regional coordinated development under the guidance of the government. However, some parts of the manuscript need to be revised. I recommend that a major revision is warranted. I ask that the authors to explain my concerns and specifically address each of my comments in their response.

My review below suggests some improvements.

1.Introduction: The introduction section is not organized clearly enough. If the innovation point is “the analysis of the structure of tertiary industry and the analysis of the strategic discussion on tertiary industry structural adjustment, optimization and upgrading”, it is not convincing. It is recommended to further improve it. In addition, the paper uses multiple methods, but does not explain the application of relevant methods in this research direction and the applicability of the methods used in the paper.

2. The scale of the figures in Figure 2 should be consistent.

3. Data time should be displayed instead of acquisition time in Table 2.

4. It is recommended to move the content related to the Research Framework to the front of specific methods.

5. Further streamline the process in Figure 3.

6. The Gw and Gb in Table 3 are not clearly explained, and there is no further description of the results in Table 3 in the manuscript.

7. It is recommend that present “East”, “Central”, “West” in Figure 1.

8. Table 5 is recommended to move the method section.

9. Table 6 lacks p-value.

10. The letter abbreviations in Tables 6 and 7 do not correspond to Table 5.

11. The significance of the research in the discussion section was not sufficient, and the shortcomings of the research method were not clearly stated.

12. Conclusion: The conclusion is poor organization.

Spatial Differentiation and Influencing Factors of Tertiary In-2 dustry in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration

a) The paper laks of content about planning as a factor influencing tertiary industry

b) Dagum_Gini Coefficient (especially); Kernel Density Estimation; Anselin Local Moran's I are NOT adequately quoted in the references

c) In the references, less than 30% of authors are not Chinese

d) The Quality and the legibility of the Figures can be improved.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article "Spatial Differentiation and Influencing Factors of Tertiary Industry in the Pearl River Delta Urban Agglomeration" addresses an interesting, current, and relevant theme in the context of land use planning and urban planning.

The text's structure is solid, with a coherent analysis. Despite being a promising article, there are some aspects that need improvement before publication:

-       Strengthening the theoretical framework by clarifying the research's positioning and conceptual framework.

-       Clarifying the statement "In previous related studies, social and economic data were mostly used for quantitative or qualitative analysis, which has certain rationality but also has problems such as a small scale of research data, long update cycle, and difficulty in data acquisition. With the development of geographic information technology, more types of data can be used to explore geographical features." What are the limitations of these approaches?

-       The methodology is robust and well-founded. However, it seems not to fully address all the proposed objectives. Why are other elements of an economic and social nature not considered, such as the social and demographic profile, qualifications, and the ability to attract or retain young and qualified populations? The distance to points of interest and facilities should not be overlooked.

-       What is the effect of the existing social and economic structure on the presented results? Is the starting point always the same? Is there no analysis of the historical factor?

-       Analysis of public policies and land use planning options, considering their effect on the obtained results.

-       Consider formulating recommendations for public policy, increasing the impact of the research.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The article has significantly improved its structure and the clarity of the arguments presented. All previously raised questions and comments have been addressed by the authors. The authors have delved deeper into the theoretical framework supporting the research and the discussion of the results. I recommend the publication of the text, suggesting that it undergoes a further review to clarify certain aspects of its writing.
