Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This article by Akitsu and co-workers describes the preparation of copper complexes of chiral azobenzene containing schiff-base ligands and the study of their electrochemical behavior upon light-induced isomerization. Modelisation of their docking properties were also investigated by computational methods. The results provide indications that light-irradiation of these complexes can have an impact on their properties.

The language is sometimes unclear and several issues need addressing:

Quite a few sentences need rephrasing or grammatical editing, or are too general:

abstract: rephrase lines 13 and 15.

l21: we discuss

p1 l35: "which catalyze molecular oxygen" : do the authors mean formation of molecular oxygen ?

p1l40: facilitate electron transfer

p2l44: researches, we have been searching is too repetitive

p2l46: photoisomerization and photoisomerization: i don't understand this sentence

p2l50/51: sentence needs rephrasing

l54: resulting

p3l122: 4-phenyl not 4-Phenyl

l126: hydrogen bond occurs is unclear

l132: as not s

l135: Moreover, ...is but useful : this sentence is unclear

l138: in this time should be rephrased

l139: we report the fact with: should be rephrased

l146: Crystal

l163: complex 1-3 of 5mg should be rephrased

l165: Nafion is not "applied" but added ?

l217: considerable

Dear The editor of Symmetry:

Please consider the following reply for query and revised manuscript (symmetry-502536) uploaded. Correction were highlighted as green (or red) letters in the revised text.

<Editor>

Please make sure that there are no more than 12 words are continually duplicated in each sentence. And also make sure the repeat rate is lower than 30%.

@ According to your instruction, we added redundant words (red letters) in the text.

<Reviewer1>

abstract: rephrase lines 13 and 15.

@ According to your comment, we rephrased these lines as follows. “Interestingly, we discovered chiral crystals from racemic mixture due to spontaneous resolution. Using two ligands per molecule, optically active R,R and S,S enantiomers and meso R,S diastereomer of Cu(II) complexes were prepared. Well chiral recognition should be expected for them.”

l21: we discuss

@ According to your comment, we fixed “discussed” to “discuss”.

p1 l35: "which catalyze molecular oxygen" : do the authors mean formation of molecular oxygen ?

@According to your comment, we fixed “molecular oxygen” to “oxygen (O2) reduction to water (H2O)”.

p1l40: facilitate electron transfer

@ According to your comment, we fixed “electron, transfer” to “electron transfer”.

p2l44: researches, we have been searching is too repetitive

@ According to your comment, we fixed “We have ….” simply.

p2l46: photoisomerization and photoisomerization: i don't understand this sentence

@ According to your comment, we fixed “photoisomerization and photoisomerization” to “photoisomerization and photo-induced orientation”.

p2l50/51: sentence needs rephrasing

According to your comment, we rephrased “Cu(II) complexes as mediators (Scheme 1) incorpolating 1-phenylethylamine derivative ligands”.

l54: resulting

@ According to your comment, we fixed “resulted” to “resulting”.

p3l122: 4-phenyl not 4-Phenyl

@ According to your comment, we fixed “4-Phenyl” to “4-phenyl”.

l126: hydrogen bond occurs is unclear

@ According to your comment, we rephrased “There are two important intramolecular interaction in the crystal.”.

l132: as not s

@ According to your comment we removed “s”.

l135: Moreover, ...is but useful : this sentence is unclear

@ According to your comment, we rephrased “Indeed, spontaneous resolution is one of the well-known phenomenon associate with chirality even for catalytic compounds [19].”

l138: in this time should be rephrased

@ According to your comment, we rephrased “in this time, a new example of spontaneous resolution was found.”.

l139: we report the fact with: should be rephrased

@ According to your comment, we removed this sentence.

l146: Crystal

@ According to your comment, we fixed to “Crystals”

l163: complex 1-3 of 5mg should be rephrased

@ According to your comment, we fixed to “Complex 1-3 (5 mg)”.

l165: Nafion is not "applied" but added ?

@ According to your comment, we fixed to “added”.

l217: considerable

@ According to your comment, we fixed to “considerable”.
