Below are the comments on the text "Opportunistic Pathogens Isolated from Peri-Implant and Periodontal Biofilm from Adjacent Teeth,"

MINOR

Abstract:

  • Change "im-plants" to "implants."

  • Change "mi-crobiologic" to "microbiologic."

  • Change "question-naire" to "questionnaire."

Materials and Methods:

  • Explain the acronym IUCS/CESPU.

  • Instead of "(BioMérieux Marcy-l'Étoile-France)," simply mention "BioMérieux, France" as the manufacturer.

Results:

  • Include the median age of study participants and specify the ages of males and females.

Species names:

  • Write species names in italics.

  • Change ",,E. Faecalis,," to "E. faecalis."

Method of counting CFU/mL:

  • Provide clarification on the method of counting CFU/mL, regardless of whether samples were diluted for colony counting. Figure 1 shows confluent growth.

UFC/mL:

  • Explain the meaning of UFC/mL.

MAJOR

  • Check the entire document for English errors, such as "the higher the presence."

  • The title of the paper, "Opportunistic Pathogens Isolated from Peri-Implant and Periodontal Biofilm from Adjacent Teeth," does not align with the methods and results obtained. No results related to biofilm study were found.

  • Better describe the role of Pseudomonas aeruginosa in the Introduction section and the conclusions. As an obligatory pathogen, its role in periimplantitis should be explained.

  • Explain why Candida spp., Enterococcus faecalis, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa were chosen for the study.

  • Specify which Candida species were isolated from patients.

  • If the information presented in the publication is preliminary and will serve as a basis for designing further experiments, mention whether further observations are planned.

The text is well-written, requires only minor corrections.

Reviewer 3 Report

This study aims to explore the relationship of three types of opportunistic microorganisms with demographic data, systemic diseases, hygiene habits, implant connection type, endodontic treatment, etc. Although the paper addresses some novel concepts, I still have some concerns:

1. The current title is somewhat misleading, potentially leading readers to believe the study is based on microbiomes from relevant patients. It would be beneficial to consider a title that better reflects the scope or main conclusions of the work.

2. It would be helpful to provide more information on how bacterial enumeration was performed.

3. The manuscript requires extensive English language revision as there are numerous syntax errors throughout. For example, in the abstract, "Alt-hough" should be corrected to "Although."

4. Figure 1's quality needs improvement.

5. Some statements in the study appear to be overstated. For instance, the study may not be able to definitively identify the relationship between systemic diseases and microorganisms.

The manuscript requires extensive English language revision

This is a second review of the manuscript titled: Opportunistic Pathogens Isolated from Peri-Implant and Periodontal Subgingival Plaque from Adjacent Teeth.

The authors corrected the text according to the suggestions and indications.

I have two more comments:

1. text was added to the introduction. it was not properly cited. please check the name of the first author of the cited publication

Inserted text : Also, Mohamed et al. 2022, was isolated P. aeruginosa in 3 out of 30 cases of peri-implantitis, demonstrating that in addition to its difficult elimination when organized in a biofilm, it also showed resistance to 13 out of 16 antibiotics tested, suggesting that resistance to antimicrobials of opportunistic pathogens in peri-im-plantitis, leads to an urgent need to create alternative treatments to antibiotics for the treatment of these infections [12]

the number 12 from the reference list  is:

El-Telbany M, El-Sharaki A. Antibacterial and anti-biofilm activity of silver nanoparticles on multi-drug resistance pseudomonas aeruginosa isolated from dental-implant. J.Oral Biol Craniofac Res. 2022, 12(1):199-203. 404 https://0-doi-org.brum.beds.ac.uk/10.1016/j.jobcr.2021.12.002

 2. please correct the spelling of enterococcus in the table 3.

E. Faecalis - should be E. faecalis
