Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

In this paper, the influence of the nonlinearity of soil strength on the bearing capacity of foundations is analyzed. The state of the art is well described by highlighting pseudo-dynamic and pseudo-static approaches. In particular, a nonsymmetrical multi-block mechanism and pseudo-static method are formulated and a closed-form analytical expression is found for the bearing capacity of strip footings.

Here are listed my minor remarks:

l.98-105 I suggest rephrasing the lines from 98 to 105 with some sentences like "In sec. 2 it is shown.., in sec. 2.. etc..".

l.249 In the description of eq. 20, I suggest recalling that p is the lateral soil pressure.

l.286 I suggest adding a short section in which you describe the software you used for solving the multivariate optimization problem.

l.304 I suggest giving more prominence to what you have done and also using comparisons with other works. Now the result obtained by Soubra is described very well and yours very little.

In Figs. 5 to 9 I suggest changing dash-dot symbols (for p = 10KPa) as it is very similar to long dash (p=5 KPa)
