Comments and Suggestions for Authors

The Authors discuss a model of a phase-slip-based superconducting quantum interference device (PS-SQUID). The proposed device is built based on two phase-slip junctions and a superconducting island that is located in the middle between them. They showed that the presence of the Josephson junction acting as a nonlinear element allows tuning the kinetic capacitance of the PC-SQUID. It is relevant that the Authors convinced the Readers that the proposed design of the waveguide apparatus could enhance the resonator's quality factor by three orders of magnitude. That fact gives good prospects for building real controllable quantum circuits (PS-SQUID) that allow the storage and manipulation of qubits. Thus, the results presented in the manuscript deserve publication.

 

The calculations presented by the Authors seem to be correct, and the article is well written in general. It is accessible to a broad range of Readers. The Authors clearly explain their ideas and adequately discuss the results. Moreover, a list of references to the papers that will be helpful in further studies in the field is provided in the manuscript. Finally, it can be stated that the submitted article can be accepted for publication in its present form.

Comments and Suggestions for Authors

This is an interesting and well written theoretical proposal for a tunable coupler for superconducting circuits such as transmon qubits. It is motivated by the ability to tune the coupler by a gate voltage instead of the more common magnetic flux. This is less sensitive to flux noise but more sensitive to charge noise. I think the idea is worth pursuing and don't have any criticisms of the manuscript.
