Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

Dear Authors, hope my comments and remarks help you to improve the quality of your work.

·        The purpose of the study is to determine the main functions of parent communication in the educational process through group chats. However, the importance and contribution of the work is not clearly explained.

·        Line 49: citation [6,6,9] needs correction.

·        Line 60: the order of reference [23] is not true.

·        Line 71: 'WhatAp', dictation needs correction.

·        The dictation of the information inside Figure 1 needs correction.

·        Figure 1 needs some explanation.

·        Line 137: 'WhatsAp app', dictation needs correction.

·        The dictation of the information inside Figure 2 needs correction.

·        Figure 2 needs some explanation.

·        Figure 1 and Figure 2 illustrate the distribution of parent chats for the years 2020 and 2022 respectively. The Figures show that the number of chats in the year 2022 is higher than the year 2020. Even though the year 2020 was almost the peak of the pandemic (in most countries). And the year 2022 was nearly the end of affection in some countries. So, the expectation is to have a higher level of online communications and chats in the year 2020. On top of that, the information in Figure 6 increases this impression although it doesn’t address the year. Do you have any explanation for that data?

·        Figure 3 needs some explanation.

·        Section 2 doesn’t provide information about who collected the data and how.

·        Line 219, 'Chat rules and regulations' should be numbered.

·        Line 305, is it heading? If yes, it should be numbered.

·        Line 368, 'Behaviour problems at school' should be numbered.

·        Line 421, 'Communicative chat events in the online learning format' should be numbered.

·        It is nice if you could clearly explain the impacts of parent-chat communication on the outputs of students, teachers, and classes.

·        It is nice if you could address your future work and explain whether or not the parent-chat communication will continue to be used in the following next years (after the pandemic).

Dear Authors,

I hope this letter finds you well. I have carefully reviewed your manuscript submitted to Education Sciences for peer review. I appreciate the opportunity to evaluate your research and would like to provide you with constructive feedback and suggestions for improving the manuscript.

Firstly, I would like to commend you for addressing an important topic in the field of education science. The study explores parental involvement and communication in the educational process through group chats, shedding light on the impact of digital technology and its implications for parent-teacher interactions. This is a timely and relevant subject that can contribute significantly to the existing literature.

However, there are several methodological aspects that require attention and improvement to enhance the rigor and validity of your study. Please consider the following points:

  1. Sample selection: Provide a clear and well-justified explanation of how the parent chat groups were selected. Ensure that the chosen groups are representative of the larger population by considering factors such as school type, geographical location, socioeconomic status, and other relevant characteristics.

  2. Data collection: Consider employing additional methods of data collection, such as surveys or interviews, to complement the screenshots of parent chat conversations. Triangulating data from multiple sources can strengthen the findings and provide a more comprehensive understanding of parental involvement and communication.

  3. Data analysis: Provide detailed information on the specific analytical techniques used, including any statistical tests, coding schemes for content analysis, and data visualization approaches. This will enhance the transparency and reproducibility of your findings.

  4. Longitudinal design: Although the study collected data at two different time intervals, it is important to acknowledge the limitations and consider a more comprehensive longitudinal design. Collecting data at multiple time points before and after the implementation of parent chat groups will allow for a more robust analysis of changes over time and the identification of potential causal relationships.

  5. Generalizability: Discuss the limitations of the study and consider how the findings may apply to other educational systems or cultural contexts. Provide a thoughtful discussion on the external validity and potential transferability of the findings to enhance the study's impact and relevance.

  6. Ethical considerations: Provide explicit details on informed consent procedures, participant confidentiality, and data storage and handling protocols. Ensure that participants' rights and privacy are protected throughout the research process.

I believe addressing these methodological considerations will significantly improve the quality and impact of your study. Additionally, I encourage you to revise and clarify the manuscript to enhance its readability and coherency.

Thank you for your contribution to the field of education science, and I appreciate your attention to the suggestions provided. I look forward to reviewing the revised manuscript and assessing the changes made based on the feedback provided.

Should you have any questions or require further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.

Thank you once again for the opportunity to review your manuscript.

Sincerely,

Reviewer

Round 2

Reviewer 2 Report

Dear Authors,

Overall, the manuscript provides valuable insights into the role and dynamics of parent chat rooms in the educational process. However, there are some areas that could be improved in this second round of revision.

Firstly, it is important to note that the manuscript lacks a clear conclusion section. A well-written conclusion is crucial to summarize the main findings and implications of the study. It should tie together the discussion points and provide a concise and meaningful ending to the manuscript.

Additionally, while the discussion highlights the potential conflicts and challenges associated with parent chat rooms, it would benefit from the inclusion of references to support the arguments presented. By referencing relevant studies or existing literature, the discussion can be strengthened and provide a more comprehensive analysis of the topic.

Furthermore, the manuscript could benefit from expanding on the limitations of the study. The current mention of limitations is brief and does not provide sufficient detail. Consider elaborating on the specific limitations of the research methodology, sample size, data collection, or any other factors that may have influenced the findings. Additionally, and to me, this is the most important addition to this section,  discuss how these limitations could be addressed in future research to further validate the study's findings.

Lastly, it is important to ensure the manuscript adheres to the journal's guidelines and requirements. Double-check the formatting, citation style, and referencing to ensure consistency throughout the manuscript, there are some formatting errors, specially in the figures.

Overall, by adding a conclusion section, incorporating relevant references, expanding on the limitations, and ensuring adherence to journal guidelines, the manuscript can be further improved in its second round of revision.
