Round  1

Reviewer 1 Report

The subject of the article is very interesting; the migration of substances from the packaging into the food is a matter of concern for the food safety authorities since some of these compounds can have adverse effects for the consumers’ health.

On the other hand, it has been reported that bisphenol A (BPA) acts an endocrine disruptor.

In this paper the migration of BPA into real beverages has been investigated. Additionally, it has been compared to routine migration tests into the European official food simulant of 20 % ethanol at 40 °C and 60 °C after storage for 10 d. For that purpose, a liquid chromatographic method has been used.

Manuscript is generally well organized, logically structured and with the objective well-defined.

Provide information about the levels of BPA, reported in the literature, found in other types of foodstuffs would be recommended.

I do express my positive opinion on the acceptance of the article to be published after minor revision.

Author Response

Reviewer 1 recommends to "provide information about the levels of BPA, reported in the literature, found in other types of foodstuffs".

In our point of view this makes no sense. There are lots of studies in the scientific literature on bisphenol A. This will be a review article and would go beyond the scope of the article.

However, to follow the recommendation, we intergrated the Bisphenol A review of the European Food Safety Authority as reference.

Reviewer 2 Report

Overall presentation of materials, method and outcomes are competent. The results might influence on safety assessment. It might change correction factors in Regulation 10/2011.

I suggest to improve introduction, especially I suggest to improve information about consumption of can. Information about growth is not sufficient, it would be valuable if the Authors would present the market of cans.

Author Response

We've integrated market data of cans.

Reviewer 3 Report

Dear Authors,
My notices you will find below:
Who is the first author? In the manuscript and in the protocol I see a different order.

Line 51: I would even say that a bishphenol A is in focus on larger scale. For instance the goverment of USA forbade using the bisphenol A into/onto food stuff/packaging.

Lines 54-56: You should use the same units.

Lines 88-89: Could you explain please, why have you decided to degasse beverages? Have this action an influence on the results?

References: all should be in English

English should be evidently improved.
