A Qualitative Study of Female Migrant Domestic Workers’ Experiences of and Responses to Work-Based Sexual Violence in Cyprus
Round 1
Reviewer 1 Report
I greatly appreciate your focus on these female migrant workers' agency. I agree that it is much needed in the field of gender labor studies. Most of my questions are about the big picture:
Big picture context:
- Why Cyprus? Why Philippina workers?
- Push/pull factors to seek overseas employment.
- Exceptionality: how does this compare to domestic violence against Cypriot women (domestic workers)? How does this compare to violence against sex workers and what is the historical context for the association between Asian women and “prostitutes”? What is the military or colonial connection?
- Using the existing body of sex and gender literature, explain more fully this intersection of race, sex, gender, and class.
- Bilateral labor trade agreements, Global capitalism, colonial history, labor supply/surplus, GDP disparity, global south and sexual/racial injustice.

Reviewer 2 Report
This is an interesting article about a hidden population, and suitable for the journal’s readers. It is very well written and only a few minor aspects require attention:
- Please provide a very short description of the topic mentioned, instead of referring readers to references 15 and 12.
- Please include a checklist of actions included in reports of qualitative research according to the COREQ - COnsolidated criteria for REporting Qualitative research.
- Please include a “limitations” section.
