Powders and particles are ubiquitous in our daily lives and are of course present in variety of diverse products and in the majority of industries; thus, the functionality of powders is very diverse. However, there are many generalities between powders of different materials and functionalities, which enables a technologist to process particles. For example, water-liking, hydrophilic, particles in humid air will adsorb water, which will then form capillary bridges holding the particles together, and this occurs in sugar, soil, sand, flour, and many other materials; so that it is not the main property of the powder (e.g., the sweetness for sugar) which is bringing about this effect, but a secondary property—the fact that the particles are hydrophilic. It is this aspect of the properties of powders and particles where the technologist can learn from different disciplines and which is the main focus of this new journal Powders.
Powders (ISSN: 2674-0516) [1] is a new interdisciplinary, Open Access scientific journal on particle/powder science and technology, published by Multidisciplinary Digital Publishing Institute (MDPI). We welcome manuscript submissions on any aspect of powders and particles, which includes powders dispersed in liquids, as well as dry powder properties. Powders also cover a wide range of sizes, ranging from nanoparticles to agglomerates, all of which will fall within the scope of the journal. Manuscripts will of course be thoroughly peer-reviewed in a timely fashion, and papers will be published online immediately after acceptance.
Since Powders is an Open Access journal, all articles published in Powders will immediately be made available worldwide under an Open Access license. This means that everyone, wherever they are, including interested scientists and the general public, will have free and unlimited access to the full text of all articles published in Powders.
I believe that this journal will become a leading forum for powder- and particle-related studies. Fundamental theory, modeling, and experimental research papers are all welcome as will be papers related to the application of powders in an industrial/product setting. The Editorial Board and myself, as Editor-in-Chief, invite high-quality contributions in various forms, such as regular research articles, communications, technique note, and reviews. We face this challenge with excitement and enthusiasm, and hope that this will encourage you to participate by publishing your best works in the field in our journal and, therefore, contributing towards achieving the success of Powders. Enjoy publishing with us!
