Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Entrepreneurship as a subject has generated great interest because of the value it represents in a country’s development, both economically and socially. Much of the entrepreneurship literature is focused on certain common groups (e.g., students, entrepreneur business people, digital entrepreneurs, technological entrepreneurs), but has been scarce on entrepreneurship by minority or underrepresented groups (e.g., rural entrepreneurs, women entrepreneurs, ethnic entrepreneurship, senior entrepreneurs, entrepreneurs with disabilities). In effect, small businesses are an integral part of a country's economy. Many of the owners of these businesses are Latinos, African-Americans, immigrants, and other minorities who often face barriers when it comes to wanting to take the first entrepreneurial step, or to formally enter the job market. For example, 3% of emerging businesses are led by women.

Objective of the Special Issue:

The objective of this Special Issue is to open future lines of work in the field of entrepreneurship based on groups that require special attention from different viewpoints. Authors of different disciplines, such as psychology, administration, education, social sciences, and other disciplines related to the topic of entrepreneurship development in minority collectives, are invited to present their works. Studies that perform critical theoretical analysis, comparative observation, empirical tests, and longitudinal case studies related with this Special Issue are especially encouraged and welcome.

Recommended Topics:

Topics to be discussed in this Special Issue include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Rural entrepreneurship
  • Women entrepreneurs
  • Ethnic entrepreneurship
  • Innovation and inclusive entrepreneurship
  • Senior entrepreneurship (entrepreneurship by people over the age of 50)
  • Rural business, regional development, and tourism
  • Craft and creative business and entrepreneurship
  • Social entrepreneurship models
  • Public policies for the promotion of entrepreneurship by minorities
  • Programs to promote and potentiate entrepreneurship by minorities
  • Entrepreneurship and emerging economies in minority sectors
  • Entrepreneurship intentions in minority groups
  • Theoretical perspectives in minority groups
