Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

There are two main goals of reproductive medicine: prevention of pregnancy and improvement of fertility. In food-producing large farm animals, the second one is more important compared to the first, because there is no production without reproduction. However, in horse breeding, during the racing period, contraception is an important task expected by owners. Improvement of fertility results remained the number one target of production animal clinical services. The reproductive management of animal stock at a dairy cattle farm is a very important part of the daily work, because increased milk production has a negative effect on the fertility of cows. Several factors influence the reproductive performance/outcome: adequate nutrition, accurate estrus detection and record keeping (human factor), insemination technique (human factor), environmental interaction (heat stress), metabolic (NEB) and reproductive status of the female on herd level. Horse reproductive medicine is more focused on individual clinical problems such as subfertile animals (follicular dynamics) or animals with high-risk pregnancies (endocrinology of pregnancy, endometrial degenerative changes). Abortion and premature deliveries caused by infectious (zoonotic diseases) or non-infectious (toxins, steroid disruptors) factors are also very important and have a high human health risk, as well. The diagnosis, treatments, or prevention of all reproductive anomalies/diseases in male and female animals are very important and have economic significance. This Special Issue therefore invites submissions addressing the current status and future outlook of areas that contribute to the advancement of knowledge and competence in theriogenology, reproductive medicine, and assisted reproduction in horses and food-producing large animals to achieve higher reproductive efficiency in the future.

All types of articles, such as original research articles and reviews, are welcome.
