Dear Colleagues,
Purinergic signaling is an ancient extracellular signaling system. Accordingly, purinergic signaling components, both purinergic receptors and ecto-enzymes controlling extracellular metabolism of purines, as well as active mechanisms of purine release, are ubiquitous, being identified in multiple tissues and cells, fulfilling a wide array of physiological functions across ontogeny, from early embryogenesis to aging. Such ubiquitous expression of purinergic signaling in virtually all systems throughout life places this signaling system at a central stage in health and disease.
This Special Issue is designed to gather relevant contributions, both original research articles and reviews, providing or reviewing the most recent advances in the molecular biology, physiology, and pathophysiology of purinergic signaling from development to aging. I look forward to receiving your contributions.
