Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Proteins must fold into their stable and correctly folded structures to ensure proper biological functions. The protein homeostasis (proteostasis) network is crucial to maintaining and regulating protein synthesis, folding, trafficking and degradation. The proteostasis network also ensures that proteins are precisely generated at the right time and in the right subcellular location. Healthy proteostasis networks usually lead to healthy aging and successful development. In the other hand, perturbations in the proteostasis network are associated with many human diseases as a result of protein misfolding and the loss/gain of protein activity. Proteostasis mis-regulation outputs are hallmarks of several diseases, including Cystic Fibrosis, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases, in addition to several types of cancer and cardiac diseases. Therefore, understanding the molecular mechanism by which those perturbations contribute to the development of human diseases is crucial for developing new therapeutic strategies to target the proteostasis network.

In this Special Issue, entitled ״Novel Advancements in Targeting Proteostasis in Human Diseases״, several of these aspects will be discussed. This Special Issue focuses mainly on studies that aim to understand how proteostasis perturbations contribute to proteinopathies and the different strategies that can be used to target this network. Therefore, we would like to invite researchers to submit manuscripts that focus on the novel advancements and therapeutic aspects of targeting proteostasis in human diseases. Contributions to this Special Issue are invited in the format of original research articles, review articles, communications and concept papers.

Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Biomolecules is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.
