Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The number of people suffering from neurological and other motor disorders is increasing rapidly, and such disorders have been found to affect 12% of the population above the age of 65 years. Successful management of these requires early and accurate diagnosis of the disease. For many of them, there are no objective biomarkers, and the patients are evaluated based on their symptoms, which can be complex, ranging from cognitive to motor impairment. In such situations, the outcomes can be biased, and this limits objectivity. It also makes it difficult to monitor the progression of the disease or the effectiveness of treatment. There is an urgent need to develop suitable sensors and analysis methods that can be used for diagnosis and monitoring of such diseases.

Research in this field has shown that effective diagnosis needs a multimodal approach, where the different symptoms may require different sensors. The aim of this Special Issue is to bring together researchers working with different modalities and looking at different aspects of the problem. We invite research papers that describe methods to process, analyze, and classify recordings from these devices to diagnose and monitor neuro and motor diseases such as PD, post-stroke, essential tremor, rigidity, cerebral palsy, and multiple sclerosis. We recognize that this research is multidisciplinary, and we invite researchers from clinical, engineering, scientific, and mathematical disciplines to submit their manuscripts. Regular-length and short papers may be submitted in accordance with the general guidelines of the journal.
