Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Wireless systems are already widely used, but significant progress in radio technologies and communication protocols in recent years continuously opens new application areas. Improvements in transceiver energy efficiency, communication reliability, dependability and network capacities, as well as new functionalities of built-in radio devices, broaden the range of possible applications. Rapid progress in wireless technologies enables the application of wireless systems to areas that were aside of digital revolution for a long time.

New solutions for smart farming, agriculture and smart factories are thriving, providing improved monitoring capabilities, better knowledge and understanding of processes, and improved capabilities for enhanced control and management methods. New capabilities and functionalities allow us to effectively solve issues and fulfill tasks that were previously challenging for automation.

The subject area of this Special Issue of Electronics (ISSN 2079-9292) includes computer and communication engineering, electrical devices, systems and control engineering and their advanced applications.

This Special Issue aims to seek high-quality submissions highlighting advanced applications of low power wireless networks, addressing recent breakthroughs in the area, wireless communication applications, and the development of low- and ultra-low-power wireless transceivers and applications, The papers describing robust and reliable wireless communication protocols, simulation and planning of wireless networks, application of wireless communication to intelligent monitoring and control in industry, agriculture and farming, radio-based localization and location-based services, and so on.

The topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Wireless communication applications in smart farming and agriculture;
  • Wireless communication applications in industry (Industrial IoT, Smart Factory);
  • advanced applications of wireless communication including but not limited to 5G, LoRa, SigFox, BLE
  • Low-power WAN networks and energy efficiency in wireless communication;
  • Design of transceivers for low- and ultra-low-power advanced applications;
  • Design of heterogeneous wireless devices for advanced applications;
  • Design and evaluation of robust and reliable wireless communication protocols;
  • Indoor/outdoor localization (ToF, TDoA, AoA/AoD) and location-based services in low power wireless networks;
  • Cybersecurity—challenges and solutions in low-power wireless communication;
  • Security and privacy in low-power wireless communication;
  • Advanced routing, traffic management, and quality of service in low-power wireless networks;
  • Network scheduling, resource allocation, and optimization in wireless networks;
  • Topology management and radio planning of energy efficient wireless networks;
  • Reliability, robustness, and dependability in wireless networks;
  • Performance evaluation of large scale wireless networks;
  • Application of blockchain and machine learning in wireless communication;
  • Big data, data fusion, processing and normalization in wireless communication;

This Special Issue encourages scientist to publish their experimental results presenting the use of wireless communication technologies in advanced and challenging applications. The submissions shall provide detailed description of experiments and methodological approach.
