Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In spite of the great progress made in developing quantum technologies, the basic notions of quantum problems discussed in physics chemistry, information, and other areas of science need to be better explained. This Special Issue aims to collect papers addressing the problems of understanding the meaning of notions of physical system states and physical observables.

The basic notions are dramatically different from human intuition derived from daily life experience. The quantum notions about position and momentum were regarded as quantum operators, and quantum states were described by complex wave functions. They are useful tools in classical mechanics and are even more important in quantum mechanics. From the period of quantum mechanics (QM) development, people have been trying to describe them in terms closer to classical science notions.

This practice was initiated by Wigner, who introduced quasi-probability distributions in 1932, and continued throughout the century of the development and application of quantum mechanics (QM). During this century, other representations of quantum states were proposed in search of the most classical representation, and a commonly used probability distribution function describing the quantum system state was recently discovered.

The development of all possible representations of quantum states, including the study of equations describing the quantum evolution of system states and the relationships of the developed representations, the description of quantum phenomena such as entanglement, uncertainty relationships, and quantum thermodynamics, as well as the fundamental problems discussed in the previous three volumes, are all considered in this new Special Issue.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Entropy is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
