Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Remote sensing technologies have revolutionized the way in which we monitor and manage coastal and marine environments. From mapping habitats to tracking environmental changes, remote sensing plays a crucial role in supporting conservation efforts in these critical ecosystems. This call invites researchers and practitioners to contribute their work on the diverse applications of remote sensing in coastal and marine conservation.

We welcome submissions on a wide range of topics related to the applications of remote sensing in coastal and marine conservation, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Habitat Mapping: Using remote sensing data to map coastal and marine habitats, such as coral reefs, seagrass beds, mangroves, and wetlands, to support conservation planning and management;
  • Biodiversity Monitoring: Assessing biodiversity and species distribution in coastal and marine environments through remote sensing techniques, including species identification and population estimation;
  • Coastal Change Detection: Monitoring coastal erosion, land use changes, and sea level rise using remote sensing data to inform coastal management and adaptation strategies;
  • Marine Pollution Detection: Utilizing remote sensing for the detection and monitoring of marine pollution, including oil spills, plastic debris, and harmful algal blooms;
  • Fisheries Management: Applying remote sensing for fisheries monitoring, including tracking fishing activities, detecting illegal fishing practices, and assessing fish stock abundance;
  • Coastal and Marine Tourism Monitoring: Applying remote sensing fuel spills from leisure boats, quality, and degradation of coastal and marine landscapes;
  • Climate Change Impacts: Investigating the impacts of climate change on coastal and marine ecosystems using remote sensing data to understand trends in temperature, sea level, and ocean acidification;
  • Integrated Coastal Zone Management: Using remote sensing as a tool for integrated coastal zone management, including land–sea interactions, coastal planning, and sustainable development.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Journal of Marine Science and Engineering is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2600 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
