Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Inorganic–organic interfaces play a major role in many devices and applications such as hybrid materials, (nano)composites, or coatings. In all of these cases, the nature of the chemical interaction between the inorganic moiety and the organic modification plays a major role in the final properties of the bulk material. It is the understanding of the bonding on the molecular level that provides us with the tools for the optimization of the bulk properties. While in the last three decades, the number of materials that rely on these interactions has grown tremendously, it is important, from time to time, to summarize recent findings on the most crucial factor in these compounds: the chemical control of the interface.

This Special Issue of Materials aims to collect recent advances in the synthesis and characterization of inorganic building blocks and inorganic–organic surfaces, as well as on the final properties of materials that incorporate such modified interfaces. We like to cover all aspects of inorganic–organic interfaces such as surface-modified inorganic clusters and nanoparticles, as well as two-dimensional surfaces. The obtained materials are often used in various applications such as functional coatings and polymers, optoelectronics, catalysis, and related materials areas. This Special Issue likes to show the broadness of the research area, and aims to address the importance of a detailed molecular insight into the interface for the benefit of better functional materials design.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
