Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

A high diversity of functional materials has been reported as a result of the coupling of different components (molecular precursors, colloids, (bio)-organic molecules, polymers, complex fluids, templating agents, liquid crystalline phases, etc.) and the development of processing and patterning techniques (electrodeposition, chemical/physical vapor deposition, extrusion, lithography, etc.). Research in advanced composites with novel materials and new structures as well as investigation of the structure–property–performance relations via both experiments and simulations is a rapidly growing area. In particular, polymeric–inorganic hybrid materials occupy a prominent position in materials science due to their potential for numerous applications related to energy, environment, electronics, biomedicine, and so on. These materials consist of the dispersion of numerous inorganic fillers ((hydr)oxides, metals, zeolites, coordination polymers, metal-organic frameworks etc.) in an organic polymer matrix. This Special Issue aims at covering the latest advances in this class of multifunctional materials with a focus on their synthesis, the characterization of their microstructural and interfacial properties, as well as their applications. This Special Issue may also consider the understanding of their formation mechanism. Full papers, communications, and reviews are all welcome.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

  • Design of polymeric–inorganic hybrid materials;
  • Polymeric–inorganic hybrid composites for energy storage and conversion;
  • Polymeric–inorganic hybrid composites for liquid or gas separation and pollutant remediation;
  • Biomedical applications of polymeric–inorganic hybrid materials.

Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. Materials is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.
