Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce a Special Issue of the journal Microorganisms, titled “Recent Advances in Acinetobacter Biology”.

Acinetobacter is a genus of non-fermentative Gram-negative bacteria that has become a major concern in healthcare settings due to its ability to develop resistance to antibiotics.

This Special Issue aims to highlight the latest advances in relation to several aspects of Acinetobacter research: new or changes to patterns in epidemiology and emergent species, including in the environment and in animals, antimicrobial resistance, biofilm growth and persistence, bacterial cell surface and signalling, virulence factors, host–pathogen interactions, taxonomy, microbial genetics and genomics, metabolism and physiology, new antibiotics, and novel antimicrobial strategies and vaccines.

This Special Issue will cover the research topics presented at the 13th Acinetobacter Biology Symposium, held in Coimbra, Portugal, June 21–23, 2023. The topics discussed at the international conference are listed below:

  1. Epidemiology and One Health;
  2. Physiology and metabolism;
  3. Genetics and evolution;
  4. Bacterial infections and biofilms;
  5. Antibiotic resistance mechanisms;
  6. Pathogenesis;
  7. Prevention and treatment of infections.

Contributors are welcome to submit an original research or review article. Attendees of the 13th Acinetobacter Biology Symposium, alongside their co-authors, are encouraged to submit their work. Manuscripts will be peer reviewed and selected for publication based on their scientific quality, originality, and relevance to the theme of the Special Issue. The deadline for manuscript submission will be June 2024.

We look forward to receiving your submissions on the latest scientific advances in Acinetobacter biology.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Microorganisms is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2700 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
