Topic Information

Dear Colleagues,

There is an unprecedented interest in the search for renewable and environmentally friendly energy sources, in particular solar cells and light-emitting devices, including electroluminescent diodes. Emerging technologies such as fully organic and hybrid solar cells and light-emitting diodes, including perovskite and dye-sensitized cells, represent a promising alternative to conventional (inorganic) devices. However, further progress in molecular engineering and device physics underlying the performance and efficiency of emerging optoelectronic devices is required. This Topic aims to provide an interdisciplinary exchange of information gathering original research articles as well as critical reviews of the latest developments in all aspects of organic and hybrid solar and light-emitting devices.

Papers should cover, but need not be limited to, the following topics:

  • Materials chemistry: design, characterization, and development of molecular materials used in organic and hybrid solar and light-emitting devices, both on an experimental and theoretical level;
  • Device physics: the basic processes underlying the operation of organic and hybrid electronic devices, including modeling performance parameters;
  • Technological aspects of production processes: fabrication methods, device architecture optimization, electrode and interface engineering, application of nanostructures, flexible devices;
  • Practical applications: degradation, stability, and industrial commercialization of solar and light-emitting devices.
