Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

In the last decade, in an answer to climate change, growing energy demand, and over consumption of fossil resources, it is of great interest in searching for renewable alternatives. Biomass represents inexhaustible resource on the earth. Nowadays, great effort has been focused on the various advantages of biomass, such as hierarchical structure, structural tunability, easy processing and doping at the molecular or atomic level, which make them highly attractive for electrochemical energy storage. Therefore, the development of biomass-derived materials for electrochemical energy storage is quite meaningful and full of opportunities and challenges.

In this context, this Special Issue of Polymers aims to provide and share the original research and review articles that cover the current state of various advanced biomass-derived materials for electrochemical energy storage. The biomass feed stock includes but is not limiting to lignocellulosic biomass and its specific components (cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin), starch, chitin, and other natural products. Additionally, the latest findings of various biomass derivatives, biopolymers and biomass-based catalysts used in energy storage devices, such as electrocatalysis, supercapacitors, fuel cells, Li/Na/Zn/Al/K-ion battery, Li-S battery, Li-O2 battery, and flow battery are particularly welcome.

We seek contributions dealing with the design and fabrication of novel types of biomass-derived materials; discussion focuses on improving the electrochemical performances of the materials must be addressed. Your contribute to this Special Issue will enhance the number of successful applications of these materials in critical science and engineering fields.
