Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

This paper presents a new method for extracting an elemental image array in three-dimensional (3D) integral imaging. This is a very interesting work. I suggest to accept this manuscript.

First of all, we appreciate your invaluable comments on the manuscript. The manuscript has been revised according to your comments and recommendations.

Reviewer 2 Report

in the introduction is not well explained possible application fields, especially for moving objects. Moreover, the moving objects don't create blur effects on the collected images, causing problems on the edge detection algorithms, do not them?

tab.1 pag. 7: the ground truth size is smaller than the presented method image size. Why?

fig. 7 pag. 8: improve readability of the grid and in general of the images if possible

fig.8 pag. 9: why on the right pictures in (c) and (b) two misaligned red circles appear?

Major revision required

In this manuscript, the authors propose a postprocessing technique to extract an elemental image array. The postprocessing method consisting of re-calibration and lens array area detection aims for promoting the accuracy of the image quality in computational reconstruction. The proposed method is a further optimization of the existing methods. Some details of this experiment need to be added by the authors. My comments are listed as follows:

1.     The first paragraph in Section 4 mentions measuring the ground truth and the results of sizes and positions through manual operations. More details should be provided on how to manually measure to achieve pixel-level accuracy.

2.     Line 236 shows that the unit of error is “pixels”. I suggest marking the unit “pixels” in Table 1.

3.     Figure 8 only shows the result of the proposed method. Because the proposed method is based on improvements of the existing method, to show the superiority of this method, a comparison of the experimental results should be added like Figure 7.

4.    To make the article more complete, the result of the application of the elemental image array extracted by this method in integral imaging display should be supplemented.
