Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

  • How is realize the support of flexible samples according the EN 310?

To explain the modifications in this case

  • The effect of grains in testing procedure for flexible and standard specimens

If this parameter can effected or no.

  • Table 3- Results of static bending –presented the difference between 10/50 Frame flexible comparing with 10/70 frame flexible

It will be important just to clarify this difference

  • The modifications for testing procedure EN 310 will be accepted based on the previous authors and research similar works.

Reviewer 2 Report

This paper proposes a ‎method for testing the effect of varying the kerfing parameters, on the flexibilization of plywood‎‎ panels for indoor applications.‎ Acceptable correlations were found for MOE, MOR and maximum deflection with the length of the kerfed area, for both values of the kerf pitch, which proves the sensitivity of the proposed method to the changes in the input parameters.

The addressed topic is interesting in the sense that little has been performed in this area which should be regarded as a topic still open to research and, as such, would have merited publication in the Applied Sciences. However, in the opinion of the reviewer, the paper, in the present form, suffers from some flaws and therefore, can be accepted for publication only if the quality of the manuscript is improved according to the comments below.

- Please include a table which contains the specimens’ characteristics.

- Please mention the load protocol according to a standard for the rate of displacement applied on the specimens.

- Please add a figure containing samples of specimens before testing.

- Please add a sketch of the test setup.

- There are some errors in cross-reference.

The manuscript requires major revision for possible publication in the Applied Sciences. The reviewer accepts reviewing the revised version of the manuscript provided that point-by-point replies are provided in the response letter which addresses each modification in the revised manuscript.
