Round 1

Reviewer 1 Report

The detailed comments are as follows:

  1. The literature which first proposed the “FAIR data principle” should be mentioned and discussed at the beginning of the 3rd paragraph in the introduction (line 43).
  2. line 33, in the 2nd paragraph of the introduction, the authors are suggested to discuss what issue the current agricultural data system has, and why the agricultural data needs to follow the FAIR principle.
  3. The authors are suggested to discuss more the challenges and barriers when adopting the FAIR data in the agricultural system, e.g., in terms of economics, policy, and technology.
  4. It should be further highlighted that how the FAIR data principle can improve the sustainability of agricultural system.
  5. The prospects of the FAIR data in agricultural system are suggested to be discussed in the discussion section.
  6. Please avoid the lumped citations, e.g., line 30, 32, and 38, etc.
  7. Ten keywords are too many for a journal article.
  8. In the abstract, FAIR needs to be defined before being used for the first time as it is not a common abbreviation.

Reviewer 2 Report

The authors systematically review the literature on FAIR.  The work identifies a social science research gap and suggests a method to guide agriculture practitioners in identifying the specific barriers in making their data FAIR. This paper is interesting.

The structure of the paper is correct, and the results and conclusions are significant.

Reviewer 3 Report

The authors conduct a systematic literature review to understand the adoption and use of FAIR data principles and demonstrate FAIR data assimilation. In addition, they also analyze the impact of FAIR data in terms of the agricultural industry performance. The paper is overall well written, and the summaries are good. I have some review comments to improve the quality and readability of the paper:

1) The authors need to point out the main contributions of the paper clearly in the introduction.
2) The authors need to describe more literature reviews relating FAIR data to agricultural performance.
3) Please include more recent references.
