Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

We are proud to announce the launch of a new Special Issue titled ‘Women's Special Issue Series: Applied Biochemistry’, welcoming women-led contributions in a variety of fields, from synthetic biology, glycan science, enzyme engineering, nucleic acid-based technology, antibody engineering, and vaccine development to pharmaceutical chemistry, antioxidants, and plant bioactive compounds.

This Special Issue is part of the MDPI journal initiative to promote and support the contributions of women in research. Women scientists are leading the way across diverse areas of science, highlighting healthcare and plant science, in which women dominate. We are inspired by outstanding biochemists who have changed the face of science and the fate of humankind—women such as Frances Arnold, who engineered enzymes by directed evolution, Tu YouYou, who isolated and used artemisin to cure drug-resistant malaria, and Özlem Türeci, who developed the first m-RNA vaccine, to name only a few. Now, we invite our fellow women scientists to present their own discoveries on topics across all areas of applied biochemistry.

For this Special Issue, we welcome all research led by women scientists, where men scientists may offer support for the initiative as co-authors. Both original research articles and comprehensive review papers are welcome.

Women’s Special Issue Series

This Special Issue is part of Applied Biosciences's Women’s Special Issue Series, hosted by women editors for women researchers. The Series advocates the advancement of women in science. We invite contributions to the Special Issue whose lead authors identify as women. The submission of articles with all-women authorship is especially encouraged. However, we do welcome articles from all authors, irrespective of gender.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Biosciences is an international peer-reviewed open access quarterly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1000 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
