Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

This Special Issue aims to publish the state-of-the-art advances in natural derived nanomaterials with proven bioactivity with particular focus on their use in cosmetics. Nanomaterials have been employed in the development of new products for personal and health care. Commercial brands using nanotechnology claim that their products exhibit unique attributes such as antiaging and/or antioxidant properties or hair growth promotion.  The benefits of such cosmetics are due to the unique properties of the nanomaterials although such nanomaterials entering the systemic circulation can also be responsible for toxicological effects.

The aim of this Special Issue is to contribute to the progress of research and development activities in cosmetic industry, inspiring future work to create advanced bioactive nanomaterials to expand their applications.

Proposed topics include, but not limited to:

  1. Controlled release of active substances
  • UV-blocking compounds, glycerol, antioxidants, enzymes, etc
  1. Synthesis and characterization of nanocarriers for delivery of active ingredients
  • nanoparticles,
  • liposomes,
  • niosomes,
  • nanoemulsions,
  • nanocapsules,
  • nanosponges,
  • cubosomes, etc
  1. Stability studies of nanocosmetics
  2. Toxicity studies
  • routes: ingestion, inhalation, dermal and eye contact.
  • nanometerials toxicity
  • in vitro tests
  1. Applications and regulatory framework.

Papers and comprehensive review articles that cover the most recent progress and challenges in this exciting field are welcome.  I hope chemists, biotechnologists, chemical engineers, microbiologists and cosmetic scientists contribute to the success of this Special Issue by submitting the latest results of their research in this interesting field.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
