Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Medical Imaging (MI) modalities will further improve using advanced signal processing methods in combination with sensor fusion, artificial intelligence, deep learning, and big data approaches.

This will affect the workflow and value of MI for diagnostic evaluation and with that, will possibly change a therapy response. Minimal invasive therapies depend on MI for accurate tool and device guidance, but often the modalities used for the initial diagnostic assessment are not available for the subsequent therapy procedure. Preoperative to interoperate image fusion (2D and 3D and of different modalities) is needed, which additionally requires navigation and image segmentation and merging software.

There are many novel approaches suggested to combine real-time or preoperatively acquired imaging information with other signals and modalities (e.g., audio, video, elastography) that could not only add valuable information, but also could help develop significantly cheaper and easier to use devices for a point of care approach.

This Special Issue focuses on some of the latest developments of computer-aided procedures for medical imaging used for diagnosis as well as for use during image-guided therapy procedures.

A specific interest is the development of novel algorithms for segmentation/evaluation/analysis, a combination of existing systems with novel sensors, and the use of auxiliary signals for existing systems or ideas for disruptive concepts in that segment.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

* Point of Care Imaging for Diagnosis and Therapy Guidance;

* Sensor Fusion with Imaging Systems;

* Hybrid concepts;

* Tool and Device Guidance and Tracking during Image Guided Therapy Procedures;

* Image Segmentation and advanced image analysis;

*Computer-aided procedures for medical imaging, used for diagnosis and during image-guided therapy procedures…

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Applied Sciences is an international peer-reviewed open access semimonthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 2400 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.
