Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The international standard, ISO/IEC 20924:2018 Information technology—Internet of Things (IoT)—Vocabulary, defines the IoT as being the “infrastructure of interconnected entities, people systems, and information resources together with services that process and react to information from the physical and virtual world.” In other words, the IoT has hyperconnectivity characteristics among smart things, services, and humans to provide useful and seamless services regardless of the type of network, device, and platform, with minimum human involvement. Nowadays, the IoT has become a fundamental paradigm in our lives and an important research topic in various fields, such as smart cities, smart cars, smart homes, healthcare, and smart factories. Research focusing on combining IoT technologies is ongoing in various fields.

This Special Issue aims to identify emerging challenges in diverse domains (e.g., smart cities, smart cars, smart homes, smart grid, healthcare, military, and smart factories) for the IoT. Moreover, it will provide an up-to-date state of the art of aspects of the IoT.

Topics of primary interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Emergent technologies for the IoT.
  • Cloud infrastructure for the IoT.
  • Machine learning for the IoT.
  • Testbeds for the IoT.
  • Interoperability in data, service, and security.
  • Standardization for the IoT.
  • Security and privacy for the IoT.
  • Case studies experience reports on the IoT.
