Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

The 10th International Conference on Experiments/Process/System Modeling/Simulation/Optimization (10th IC-EpsMsO) was held in Loutraki, Greece, from 6 to 9 July 2023, at the Alexandreio Convention Center. For more information about the conference, please visit the conference website (https://www.epsmso.gr).

Selected papers presented at the conference and included in the conference proceedings will be considered for inclusion in this Special Issue. The authors of the selected papers will be notified by the Conference Chairman, in due time, to submit their papers to this Special Issue of Computation, by 31 December 2023 at the latest. Submitted papers could be extended from their conference size to include new results, if any. All submitted papers will undergo the journal’s standard peer review procedure. Accepted papers will be published in open access format in Computation and collected in this Special Issue. The papers accepted for publication will be published free of charge, instead of the 1600 CHF standard Article Processing Charge (APC) for this journal.

Please prepare and format your paper according to the Instructions for Authors using the LaTeX or Microsoft Word template file of the journal (both are available from the Instructions for Authors page). Manuscripts should be submitted online via the susy.mdpi.com editorial system.

Manuscript Submission Information

Manuscripts should be submitted online at www.mdpi.com by registering and logging in to this website. Once you are registered, click here to go to the submission form. Manuscripts can be submitted until the deadline. All submissions that pass pre-check are peer-reviewed. Accepted papers will be published continuously in the journal (as soon as accepted) and will be listed together on the special issue website. Research articles, review articles as well as short communications are invited. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.

Submitted manuscripts should not have been published previously, nor be under consideration for publication elsewhere (except conference proceedings papers). All manuscripts are thoroughly refereed through a single-blind peer-review process. A guide for authors and other relevant information for submission of manuscripts is available on the Instructions for Authors page. Computation is an international peer-reviewed open access monthly journal published by MDPI.

Please visit the Instructions for Authors page before submitting a manuscript. The Article Processing Charge (APC) for publication in this open access journal is 1800 CHF (Swiss Francs). Submitted papers should be well formatted and use good English. Authors may use MDPI's English editing service prior to publication or during author revisions.

The present work aims to investigate the newly modified transfer matrix method (MTMM) to predict an automotive exhaust muffler’s transmission loss (AEMTL). The MTMM is a mixed method between a 3D-CFD (Computation Fluid Dynamics in 3D), namely AVL FIRETM M Engine (process-safe 3D-CFD Simulations of Internal Combustions Engines), and the classic TMM for the exhaust muffler. For all the continuous and discontinuous sections of the exhaust muffler, the Mach number of the cross-section, the temperature, and the type of discontinuity of the exhaust gas flow were taken into consideration to evaluate the specific elements of the acoustic quadrupole that define the MTMM coupled with AVL FIRETM M Engine for one given muffler exhaust. Also, the perforations of intermediary ducts were considered in the new MTMM (AVL FIRETM M Engine linked with TMM) to predict the TL (transmission loss) of an automotive exhaust muffler with three expansion chambers. The results obtained for the TL in the frequency range 0.1-4 kHz agree with the experimental results published in the literature. The TMM was improved by adding the AVL FIRETM M Engine as a valuable tool in designing the automotive exhaust muffler (AEM). Full article
