The International Society of Doctors for the Environment (ISDE) is a global umbrella organization of national initiatives of medical doctors. The main purpose of ISDE is to help defend our environment both locally and globally to prevent numerous illnesses, ensure the necessary conditions for health, and improve the quality of life.

In order to safeguard the health of our own generation and of future ones, we must care for the environment. ISDE was established as a tool for educating and updating physicians and the general public, and stimulating awareness and initiatives by public and private bodies, in particular governmental agencies. The Association intends to reach out to all, as fellow citizens of the world.

Italian Society of Environmental Medicine (SIMA)

Society logo

Environmental Medicine embraces and involves various disciplines including the biomedical and environmental sciences, the legal, economic, political and societal sciences, as well as the materials and construction sciences. SIMA (Italian Society of Environmental Medicine) aims to safeguard human health through the protection and development of nature and the environment, promoting actions that limit the environmental impact of human activities such as industrial discharges, greenhouse effect, deforestation and pollutant emissions. These are the main environmental risk factors for the human health, due to the close correlation between man and the environment. In this view, the protection of the territory and the environment represents a relevant part of disease prevention, in order to reduce the exposure to chemical, physical and (micro)biological pollutants.
