Dear Colleagues,

Carbohydrates polymers, the most abundant natural biomaterials, provide a versatile platform for various biomedical applications due to multifaceted structural and functional properties like antimicrobial activity, cellular interaction, crosslinking ability, protein binding to design desired biomaterials. Inherent biocompatible and biodegradable properties of polysaccharides attract to derive functional biomaterial. Polysaccharides take part in crucial functions of organisms including cellular communication, inflammation, infection development and disease, that make them the most sought-after biomaterials in form of drug delivery devices, tissue engineering, cell targeting, antibacterial, regenerative medicines, organoid scaffolds, medical device coating, etc. The science of public health is to protect and improve the health of people and their communities. The relevance of Public Health in COVID-19 emergency situation is notably recognized worldwide. Study reporting importance of carbohydrate polymers in controlling disease outbreaks would be highly welcomed.  Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) developed with carbohydrate polymers could comprehend safe, environment-friendly, recyclable and/or antimicrobial properties. The versatile characteristics of carbohydrate polymers and growing interest in their biomedical applications lead us to invite you submit your research work to this special issue in the form of a new research article or a systematic review of existing literature.
