Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

A Special Issue of the International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health focusing on gender and nursing is being planned. The construction of nursing as a gendered profession has emerged from historical conceptualisations of the nature of care as a vocation provided primarily by women. Modern nursing continues along a gendered path but has made significant progress in terms of achieving professional status and parity of esteem among other healthcare professionals although the pace of this progress is uneven globally. Where advancements have been made, in some areas, reach has sometimes exceeded grasp.  This Special Issue aims to bring together high-quality papers that explore the complex intersection of gender and nursing and the impact it has across multiple domains. Specifically, papers focusing on research that reports progress and/or emerging issues in the areas of gender and working conditions, workforce planning, pay and role disparities, recruitment and retention, occupational psychology, gender stereotypes, education and other professional issues are welcomed.
